So you might not be able to go out with your friends at the moment, but that doesn’t mean you can’t drink the good stuff still.

Being in Tier 4, (stay at home) I thought it apt to recommend my fave English sparkling wines, from each Tier, just in time for a last minute 2020 purchase.

This is a fabulous selection of the best (in my opinion) sparkling wines from Tier 1 to Tier 4 in the UK, so if you’re looking for a sparkly in your Tier – why not give one of these a go.

Tier 1 – Cornwall

Camel Valley 2018 Pinot Noir Rose Brut Sparkling

This Rosé is from the Camel Valley Vineyard in Cornwall, which grows 7 hectares of Pinot Noir, Seyval, Bacchus & Donfelder grapes on the slopping hills alongside the Camel River.

This ‘Award Winning’ sparkling Rosé which beat Bollinger Rosé in 2009 in the ‘World Rosé Tasting Championship’ and has also been winning top awards for their wines over the past two decades.

The vineyard was started back in 1989 by ex RAF Pilot Bob Lindo and his wife Annie and is now run by their son Sam. This fabulous part of Cornwall is the perfect region for producing this fab Rosé. The colour is of a pink salmon and on the nose is of floral and strawberry & raspberries aromas and a balanced well refreshing finish; it’s mouth-watering.

Tier 2 – Dorset

Langham Blanc de Blancs 2015 Sparkling

A great sparkling from the Langham Estate which is set around the Grade 1 Listed Binghames Melconbe Manor. The Manor dates back to the reign of Edward V1.

In 1980 John Langham acquired the estate and in 2009 with his son Justin decided to plant 30 acres of vines on their land at Crawthorne Farm, which is a few miles from the Manor, growing the traditional grapes of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir & Pinot Meunier. The chalk soils and the unique microclimate and terroir are perfect for these Champagne varieties.

This wine has just won ‘International Sparkling Wine Producer of the Year 2020’. The single varietal, 100% Chardonnay from 2015, barrel-aged and on lees for 18 months plus 6 months on cork. The colour, I found, is of pale yellow with a stream of fine bubbles, with aromas of honeysuckle, lemon and apples. On the palate, tonnes of fruit, spice and crisp green apple.

This is a big fabulous sparkling wine which 100% deserves the top win of 2020.

Tier 3 – Sussex

Kingsbrook Kin Vintage Cuvee 2014

Kingsbrook Vineyard was founded by the Beckett family back in 2014 from using classic agricultural land bought by William Beckett back in 1969.

Joseph Beckett (who is the youngest vineyard owner in the UK) started planting the first vines on his Grandfather’s land in May of 2014 and further sites in 2018 & 2019. With now over 44,500 vines so far growing cuvee (blended) Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier for the sparkling plus other varieties such as Bacchus, Pinot Gris and Precoce for the still wines.

The Kin curvee has been aged on lees since July 2015 and has the aromas of classic orchard fruits, honeyed almonds with mouth watering crispness and small bubbles.

This I must say is a truly exquisite wine in its making.

Costs £35.00 and you can order online at

Tier 4 – Kent

Mereworth Wines – White from Black 2018 Sparkling

The Boscawen family have been farming the land around Mereworth for over 250 years, growing hops and apples for the finest beers and ciders in England.

Now under the helm of William Boscawen and wine maker Scott Gebbie, the family have transformed some of the land into growing vines. Growing Chardonnay, Pinot Noir & Pinot Meunier grapes on the Kent Downs in the village of Wateringbury. The perfect rocky soil and muddy toil, plus a microclimate that the French would envy, is producing fabulous conditions for producing this Kent sparkling.

The White from Black award-winning sparkling is their first vintage made from black Pinot grapes planted back in 2015. Winning a silver award at ‘The Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships 2020’. Sitting alongside the likes of Bollinger and Laurent Perrier with the best sparkling in the World, this can only be fabulous start to their journey in producing the best sparkling in the UK and overseas.

This sparkling wine is just elegant with a touch of fruits and not too many florals notes. A divine wine that just takes your breath away.

This delightful wine cost £27.50 and you can buy online at
